About the Rally

The Smartwood by Alpwood Possum Bourne Memorial Rally has been confirmed. The event this year will run on the 8th of May 2010.

The Rally will begin from the The centre of Pukekohe and comprise of 8 special stages in the Franklin and Waikato areas with the final finish control at the Pukekoke Car Club in Station Rd, Pukekohe. Prize giving will be held in the Massey Hall at the A&P Showgrounds right next to the car club.

The Pukekohe Car Club ran the Possum Bourne Memorial Rally for the first time in 2006 after holding a memorial rally sprint the two years previous. It was decided to hold the memorial event, and with the support of Peggy, Taylor, Spencer, Jazlin and Possums family we are able to remember him as the great rallying personality he was.

Possum was a member of the Pukekohe Car Club where his many friends and associates now come together to provide a brilliant event where his contribution to MotorSport is remembered and celebrated.

We are back as the major sponsors of the Possum Bourne Memorial Rally.  In 2010 the Possum Bourne Memorial Rally has developed into a three day event following all stages of Rally New Zealand from the roads of Northland to Franklin and Waikato.  The Pukekohe Car Club is running the event in conjunction with Rally NZ with special emphasis for us on the Saturday where entrants are competing for the Possum Bourne Memorial Trophy.  This day is also the first round of the Top Half Rally Series so we expect a great turnout from local stars and those of us who compete at a more modest level.

Competitors in the three day event will begin Friday and Sunday from Parc Ferme in central Auckland and follow on from the WRC competitors. Those competing in the Possum Bourne Trophy day will begin the event with a Car /Driver display and Ceremonial Start in Pukekohe on Saturday, and then join WRC competitors in the NZ round of the World Rally championships to compete on the same Franklin and Waikato roads for the day.  There are also two Special Stages at the Hampton Downs Track.   The finish and prizegiving for Saturday will be in Pukekohe.

What a great opportunity for local clubman’s competitors!  Competing with the world’s best!
